Driver attacked by taxi patrols on R101 outside Mokopane
A private vehicle driver was attacked and knocked down by an alleged taxi patrol vehicle on the R101 outside Mokopane, Limpopo, on Sunday, in an incident believed to be linked to harassment within the taxi industry.
According to reports, taxi patrol vehicles from a local taxi association allegedly attempted to stop a Toyota Avanza travelling along the busy route. During the confrontation, the Avanza driver reportedly fled the scene after being attacked and struck by one of the taxi patrol vehicles.

The driver subsequently lost control of the vehicle, resulting in a head-on collision with a Mercedes-Benz. Three vehicles were involved in the crash. A male passenger travelling in the Avanza sustained minor injuries, while the two occupants of the Mercedes-Benz were also treated for minor injuries at the scene.
As part of ongoing investigations, police confiscated two taxi patrol vehicles believed to be linked to the incident. At this stage, no arrests have been made, pending the finalisation of investigations by the South African Police Service (SAPS).
Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has issued a stern warning following the incident. She urged victims of taxi-related violence and harassment to report such cases to the police to ensure proper registration and thorough investigation.

Lieutenant General Hadebe also raised concern about complainants who later withdraw cases or fail to cooperate, warning that such actions undermine the criminal justice system and embolden perpetrators.
“We will deal decisively and harshly with anyone who ignores our calls to refrain from violence and harassment,” she said.
