Four-year-old girl found dead in the bushes in Lemondokop

A four-year-old girl was found dead in the bushes near Thabeng Dam in Lemondokop village, under the Mopani District in Limpopo.

The discovery was made on Saturday, 28 March 2026, at approximately 16:00, during a search operation for the missing child and a 63-year-old woman, Violet Maswanganyi, a mental health patient from Itieleng village.

Maswanganyi was found alive, while the child was sadly discovered deceased in a decomposed state.

**PUBLIC NOTICE**

According to police reports, community members and law enforcement launched a joint search after the pair was reported missing. The child’s body was later recovered in the Lemondokop area.

An inquest docket has been opened, and investigations are underway to determine the cause of death.

Limpopo Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has conveyed her condolences to the grieving family.

“We are shocked and saddened by this tragic incident. Our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time, and we assure them that we will do everything possible to ensure justice is served,” she said.
