Two relatives arrested for allegedly poisoning family member
Police in Sekgosese, under the Mopani District, have arrested two family members, aged 38 and 82, for the alleged murder of their 30-year-old relative, who was reportedly poisoned at Lemondokop village on Tuesday, 28 October 2025.
According to police reports, the deceased had complained of severe stomach pains and dizziness before losing consciousness. He was declared dead inside an ambulance on the way to a nearby hospital.

Community members, suspicious about the circumstances surrounding the death, alerted the police on Friday, 31 October. Initially, an inquest case was opened, but further investigation revealed that the deceased’s uncle and grandmother were allegedly responsible for poisoning him.
The suspects were traced and arrested, and the case has since been changed to murder. A post-mortem will determine the exact cause of death.
Both suspects are expected to appear before the Kgapane Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 4 November 2025.

Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Jan Scheepers condemned the incident, calling it “deeply disturbing.” He commended detectives for their swift work and thanked the community for reporting the matter rather than resorting to violence.
