Limpopo Father shoots teenage son, attempts suicide

A 53-year-old father allegedly shot and killed his 17-year-old son before turning the gun on himself at Ha-Mutsha Tshitandani village, Limpopo on Sunday morning.

Police found the father lying in a pool of blood outside the house with a 9mm pistol beside him. Inside, his son was found dead on the bed with gunshot wounds to the head.

The suspect, a member of the SANDF based near Mookgophong, was taken to hospital under police guard.

Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe condemned the incident and urged families to seek help instead of resorting to violence.

“I once more call upon families to seek professional help when experiencing domestic challenges instead of resorting to violence,” said Hadebe.

The motive behind these incidents is currently unknown, but the domestic violence cannot be ruled out since they were staying being two in the house.
