Polokwane Municipality apologies for Seshego Stadium lights mess
The Polokwane Municipality has issued an official apology following a floodlight failure at Seshego Stadium on Tuesday.
A Betway Premiership match between Magesi FC and Chippa United was abandoned after 15 minutes of play. This is after the floodlights switched off twice at the venue. It was the first match at the facility in 23 years and a first ever match played in the evening.

The match had to be played the following day at 12:00 in the afternoon. The incident has attracted attention to the municipality who have a reputation of world class facilities. They have now apologized to the League, clubs and everyone affected.

“Polokwane Municipality deeply regrets the unforeseen technical issue with the floodlights at Seshego Stadium last night,” said Municipality spokesperson Thipa Selala.
“The municipality recognizes the inconvenience this may have caused to players, officials and passionate football supporters. A thorough investigation is currently underway to determine the root cause of the malfunction and to implement the necessary measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
“It is important to highlight that all standard tests were successfully conducted before the match. The system was fully functional then. However, the municipality commits itself to ensuring the reliability of its sporting facilities and providing an optimal experience for both players and spectators.”
