In response, the Provincial Government has intensified its efforts to manage traffic flow and enhance road safety. Members of the Executive Council, together with Members of the Provincial Legislature, Executive Mayors and Mayors from all five districts, have been mobilised to support municipal traffic officials at roadblocks from 24 December 2025 to 5 January 2026.
Motorists have been urged to remain patient and to strictly follow instructions from traffic officers, especially in heavily affected towns. The government has also reiterated its call for responsible driving behaviour, warning against speeding and drinking and driving.
MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Ms Violet Mathye, said law enforcement remains firm, revealing that 45 drivers were arrested for drunk driving over a recent weekend. She stressed that such behaviour endangers lives and will not be tolerated.
