Five killed in horror N1 crash near Louis Trichardt
The Limpopo MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Violet Mathye, has expressed shock and sadness following a devastating multi-vehicle collision that claimed five lives on Friday afternoon.
The accident occurred on the N1, near Binlavin Farm, approximately six kilometers outside Louis Trichardt in the Makhado Municipality, Vhembe District.

According to preliminary reports, the crash involved two trucks, a sedan, a bakkie and a 22-seater bus. Emergency personnel confirmed that five people died at the scene, while fifteen others sustained minor injuries and seven were slightly injured.
Paramedics and rescue teams worked for hours to stabilize the injured and clear the wreckage as traffic came to a standstill along the busy highway.
MEC Mathye conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and extended well wishes to those recovering. “On behalf of the Department, I wish to extend my sincere condolences to the families of those who perished on the scene and wish the injured a speedy recovery,” she said.

The Department noted that a preliminary assessment points to loss of control and overspeeding as possible contributing factors. Motorists have been urged to exercise extreme caution, particularly on the N1, which continues to record high accident rates.
A comprehensive report will be released once investigations are finalized.
