Roads severely damaged in Modimolle due to flooding
Heavy rainfall has led to extensive flooding and severe road damage across Modimolle in Limpopo, prompting urgent safety warnings from authorities. Several parts of the town, including the Modimolle Mall and Pick n Pay Centre, remain flooded following disruptive storms that hit the area on Thursday.
Emergency updates confirmed that water levels at all critical points in Modimolle (Waterberg District) reached their highest levels in years. The situation has worsened, with major routes now severely affected. Residents are urgently advised to avoid travelling into Modimolle from the R33 on both sides, as conditions have become extremely dangerous.

The Koro Creek bridge and the Dorsland route have been closed, with all low-water bridges in the town reported to be flooded and impassable. Officials warn that road surfaces have been heavily damaged, increasing the risk for motorists. Drivers who must travel are urged to exercise extreme caution.
Authorities continue to stress that no one should attempt to cross flooded bridges or water-covered roads, as fast-moving water can sweep away vehicles within seconds. With more rainfall expected on already saturated ground, the risk of flash flooding remains high.

“Black Friday is not worth risking your life, rather stay home,” an earlier update cautioned. Residents are also requested to share only verified images of the flooding, clearly marked with time and date, to ensure accurate reporting.
Emergency services say it may take time for conditions to stabilize and urge the public to remain alert and prioritize safety at all times.
