Mayor Musolwa once again emphasised the importance of promoting active citizenry in not only building cohesion but also helping deal with chronic diseases.
“We are very happy with the outcomes; the preparations produced the results we see,” said Musolwa after the race.

“I think the fewer incidents or no incidents at all, and I give it to the team. They did very well. I am very happy. We are building the nation, nation-building and social cohesion above all, dealing with the social ills.
“You know that an active citizenry is less vulnerable to diseases. We spend less as a government on treating chronic diseases. So that is our contribution as a municipality. Over and above that, you can see that people are very happy; they are dancing together and running together. That is what we wanted to achieve, and I am happy with that,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mayor Musolwa finished in position 56 with a time of 01:51:49. That’s an improvement from last year’s race, where he finished in position 75.
“I ran 21.1km last year’s 21.1km in 2:45, this year I did it in 1:51, and I think it’s a great improvement. So, I can’t ask for more,” he said.
“I outran people who came from the comrades’ marathon last year. I was jokingly telling them to bring your comrades’ marathon medals to me because I think I deserve more than they do.”
