Limpopo Tourism Agency hails another successful SDC open
Limpopo Tourism Agency [LTA] CEO, Moses Ngobeni, has hailed the impact of the SDC Open following another successful tournament at Zebula Golf Estate and Spa, near Bela-Bela.
MJ Viljoen claimed a dramatic playoff victory on Sunday, securing his first title on the Hotel Planner Tour. It’s the fourth Sunshine Tour victory of his career.
Viljoen came from one shot behind at the start of the round and looked headed for a comfortable victory when he was at one point three shots clear on the back nine. But a charging Deon Germishuys and a weather delay quickly changed that.
Germishuys birdied two of his last four holes for a 67, setting the clubhouse target at 16 under. Viljoen came back after the delay and bogeyed his next three holes to slip one behind Germishuys. Viljoen then birdied the par five 18th for a 70 to force the playoff. He birdied the 18th to claim the title in the playoff.

The SDC Open is a crucial qualifying event on the “Road to Mallorca,” which is the Challenge Tour’s season-long ranking system that leads to promotion to the DP World Tour [formerly the European Tour].
Ngobeni described the SDC Golf Tournament as a unique and growing platform that delivers tangible economic benefits to the province.
He also noted the tournament’s appeal to international visitors, particularly Europeans, who are often impressed by the province’s natural beauty and unique experiences — including the memorable tradition of an elephant presenting the trophy to the winner.

Ngobeni further encouraged local golf enthusiasts to take advantage of such opportunities. Emphasising that Limpopo hosts quality golf courses and events that allow aspiring golfers to participate, learn, and gain exposure.
“We have seen tremendous growth. The lodge here is fully booked and it’s not only here,” Ngobeni told the media on the final day.
“Ever since the launch of the Limpopo championship seven years ago, the Sunshine Tour also brought in other competitions, including SDC. It is the second SA open that is taking place and this one is a DP open.
“Even all the establishments around are fully booked because you have a lot of these professional [golfers] that are here taking part. After all, this is part of the European challenge.”
