Maruleng Municipality to honour late soldier Calvin Moagi
The Maruleng Local Municipality in Limpopo has resolved to rename its under-construction Showground to the Calvin Louis Moagi Sports Complex, in honour of the late SANDF soldier Calvin Louis Moagi.
Moagi is one of the nine SANDF soldiers who tragically lost their lives during a clash with M23 rebels in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Moagi hails from Sekororo village and has been deployed to the DRC in support of peacekeeping efforts.
He joined the SANDF in January 2018 and the last time he saw his family was in January 2024. He left behind his partner, Priscilla Ledimo and a four-year-old daughter, Louisa.

Maruleng Mayor Tsheko Musolwa stated that the renaming seeks to honour Calvin Moagi ultimate sacrifice and ensure that future generations remember his contribution to national peacekeeping efforts.
“The complex will serve as a beacon of development and remembrance in the Maruleng community,” said Musolwa.
Once completed, the Calvin Louis Moagi Sports Complex will boast world-class facilities, including: An outdoor combi-court, a standard soccer pitch, a rubberised running track and an indoor multipurpose centre catering for a range of indoor sporting codes.
The decision, supported by both the Moagi family and the Maruleng Municipal Council, follows a public participation process aimed at recognising and preserving the legacy of a local hero who served his country with distinction.
