Grade 4 learner passes away after swallowing pen lid
A Grade 4 learner at Moriting Primary School in Capricorn District, Limpopo tragically passed away on Monday after accidentally swallowing a pen lid.
The learner reported to his teacher that he was struggling to breathe and was rushed to the hospital, where medical staffs were unable to save him.

Limpopo MEC for Education, Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya, expressed her condolences to the family and school community.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the learner’s family during this difficult time. No parent must ever bury their child. To her little classmates and teachers, we encourage them to stay strong.”

The Department of Education has deployed psychosocial support services to assist the family and school community.
