‘Well done’ – president Ramaphosa tells the Gauta BMX boys
The Gauta BMX boys from Limpopo have received a congratulatory message from President Cyril Ramaphosa following their epic journey from Burgersfort to Cape Town. The three boys recently completed a 1,700 km ride to Mother City on ordinary BMX bicycles.
Gauta Mahlakoane, Karabo Mokoo and Maxwell Ndou ended the incredible 13-day journey on Monday afternoon.

“Your ambition to succeed against all odds has captivated the nation and this feat of human endurance has awoken the possibilities of what one will achieve when setting their sights to greatness,” said President Ramaphosa in a message to the Gauta BMX boys on Tuesday.
“As a peloton, you triumphed over adversity and the journey from Burgersfort to Cape Town fueled our Ubuntu human connection that defines South Africa.
“In the spirit of solidarity, the people of South Africa not only cheered the team on when pacing past their communities, they also responded to your needs by raising awareness about the BMX Gauta Team club and your advocacy for young people to stay off alcohol, drugs and gangsterism.”

“South Africa admires and values the youthful exuberant self-starting initiative you espoused that has inspired this and many generations to come,” he said.
Meanwhile, the trio were joined by members of their family when they arrived in Cape Town on Tuesday. They are also expected to be hosted by the Limpopo provincial government upon their return to the province.
