IEC expresses readiness for Ephraim Mogale ward 9 By-election
The Electoral Commission in Limpopo has announced that everything is in place for the Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality ward 9 By-election.
The by-election will take place on Wednesday, 17 September 2025. It is made up of four Voting Districts [VDs] which are under the Kgoši Rahlagane Tribal area.
Voting Stations will open at 07h00 and close at 21h00 on Wednesday, 17 September 2025. The current registration figures in the ward are 4 744 voters.

The vacancy occurred due to the death of the Ward Councillor. It was previously represented by the African National Congress [ANC].
In terms of Section 25(3) of the Municipal Structures Act, read with Section 1(e), the Municipal Manager declared the vacancy on 1 July 2025. The Electoral Commission is expected to fill the vacancy within 90 days.

The following candidates will be contesting Ward 09 of Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality:
Collins Nkwane Maleswene of the African National Congress [ANC];
Sbongile Mathibela Mashiane of Economic Freedom Fighters [EFF];
Lucky Tswejana Maleswena of Pan Africanist Congress of Azania [PAC];
Emmanuel Nkgudi of the South African Maintenance and Estate Beneficiaries Association [SAMEBA]; and
Motsoape Alpheus Maribe of Umkhonto Wesizwe Party [MKP].
The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Local Government Elections was 39.92%. Special voting will take place at the voting stations, as well as through home visits on Tuesday, 16 September 2025, between 08h00 and 17h00.
