Woman to appear in court for murder of her newborn child

An 18-year-old woman is expected to appear before the Tzaneen Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 14 April 2026, following the death of her newborn child, who was discovered inside a pit toilet in Matswi Village, Bolobedu.

Police in Limpopo say the incident occurred on Sunday night, 6 April 2026. The suspect, who was pregnant at the time, was reportedly sleeping in the same house as the complainant when she experienced complications during the night.

The following morning, the woman could not be located, prompting a search. Community members later heard a baby crying from a nearby pit toilet and, upon investigation, discovered a newborn inside.

The infant was rescued with the assistance of community members and taken to a local hospital for medical treatment. However, the baby later died.

Police were subsequently informed, and a case of murder was opened. Investigations are ongoing.
