New mental healthcare centre officially opened in Polokwane
A new 87-bed Netcare Akeso mental healthcare services facility officially opened its doors in Polokwane, Limpopo on Tuesday.
The facility offers specialist inpatient treatment for a range of psychiatric, psychological, and addictive conditions including anxiety and depression, bipolar mood disorder, dual diagnosis [substance abuse and addiction] and post-traumatic stress disorder for both adults and adolescents.

According to their website, the multi-disciplinary team at Netcare Akeso Polokwane, including psychiatrists, psychologists, occupational therapists, and nursing staff, work together to provide you with a safe and comfortable environment where you are able to recover, develop new skills to better manage your mental health, and understand your illness.
The official ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by among others the Health MEC Dieketseng Mashego, Capricorn District Executive Mayor Mamedupi Teffo, Polokwane Executive Mayor, John Mpe, co-founder Dr Joshua Khosa and Netcare Group CEO & Board of directors Dr Richard Friedland.

Polokwane Executive Mayor John Mpe says the official opening of the facility marks a major step in improving mental healthcare services in the city.He added that the investment will bring quality psychiatric care closer to residents, while restoring dignity and strengthening communities.
He says the development also signals growing investor confidence in Polokwane, with more specialist hospitals and major projects expected in the near future.
Mpe says the city continues to invest in infrastructure to support economic growth, create jobs, and improve the well-being of its people.
Capricorn District Municipality Executive Mayor Mamedupi Teffo praised the investment as a major boost for mental health services in Limpopo.
She commended Netcare for its commitment to improving healthcare, saying the partnership with government strengthens service delivery and restores dignity in communities.
