Five people died in a mini bus crash on N1 Limpopo
Five people lost their lives in a tragic road accident involving a Toyota Quantum minibus on the N1-26 Lunds route in the Capricorn District, Limpopo, during the early hours of today.
The crash occurred at around 02:21 when the vehicle, which was carrying 27 passengers, far exceeding its legal capacity and overturned.

Preliminary reports suggest that a tyre burst may have caused the driver to lose control of the minibus, leading to the fatal accident. Three women and two men died at the scene. The driver and 11 other passengers sustained minor injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.
Limpopo MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Violet Mathye, expressed deep condolences to the affected families. “Our hearts go out to the families of the five passengers who lost their lives. We wish the injured a speedy recovery. Our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragedy,” said MEC Mathye.

The MEC reiterated the department’s call for road safety, urging drivers to conduct pre-trip inspections at all times and to adhere strictly to passenger limits to prevent avoidable accidents.
