One person has died in N1 taxi accident near Mokopane
One person has died and 14 others were injured following a serious road accident involving a minibus taxi on the N1 near Westerberg, close to Mokopane, in Limpopo on Monday afternoon.
According to emergency services, the accident occurred when the taxi, travelling from Bochum to Thembisa in Gauteng, lost control and overturned.

Preliminary reports suggest that a tyre burst, coupled with possible speeding, may have contributed to the crash. One male passenger was declared dead at the scene, while the injured commuters were rushed to nearby hospitals, including Voortrekker Hospital in Mokopane, for medical treatment.
The South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) has expressed deep sadness over the incident. SANTACO President Abnar Tsebe conveyed condolences to the family of the deceased and wished those injured a speedy recovery.

The SANTACO Limpopo provincial representatives are expected to visit the injured commuters to offer support.
The organisation has also reiterated its call for strict vehicle roadworthiness checks and responsible driving to prevent future tragedies.
