Four people lost their lives in the N1 in Limpopo
Four people, including a female driver and three children, lost their lives in a tragic road accident on the N1-26 Ysterberg route in the Capricorn District, Limpopo, on Sunday, 11 January 2026.
The victims were travelling in a Toyota Sedan when the collision occurred.

According to a preliminary report, a Haval SUV and a VW Sedan were travelling in the same direction when the Haval SUV swerved to avoid an unknown vehicle that was overtaking on a barrier line. The manoeuvre resulted in a head-on collision with the Toyota Sedan.
Moments later, the VW Sedan also collided with the Toyota Sedan. The unidentified vehicle that allegedly caused the crash fled the scene and is currently being sought by police.
Emergency services responded swiftly, but all four occupants of the Toyota Sedan were declared dead at the scene. The driver of the VW Sedan sustained critical injuries and was rushed to hospital, while the driver of the Haval SUV suffered minor injuries.

Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety MEC Violet Mathye strongly condemned the reckless driving that led to the crash.
She urged motorists to obey traffic rules, particularly during peak travel periods, warning that negligence continues to cost innocent lives.
