Speedster arrested for driving 174km/h on N1 in Limpopo
A 28-year-old motorist has been arrested after being caught driving at an excessive speed of 174km/h in a 120km/h zone on the N1 in Limpopo.
The incident occurred on Monday afternoon at around 13:43 between Bela-Bela and the Settlers Off Ramp, where traffic officers were conducting routine speed enforcement operations.
According to the Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety, the driver was intercepted while travelling in a Porsche Cayenne at a dangerously high speed.

Authorities said the motorist was immediately arrested at the scene and taken to the Bela-Bela Police Station for further processing. The department expressed serious concern over the incident, warning that reckless and excessive speeding continues to pose a major threat to road safety, particularly during peak travel periods.
Officials highlighted that driving at such high speeds significantly reduces a driver’s reaction time and increases stopping distances, placing not only the driver at risk but also passengers, pedestrians, and other road users. The department noted that such behaviour often results in severe or fatal crashes, leaving families and communities devastated.
The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety has urged all motorists to obey speed limits and take responsibility for their actions on the road.
