Educator granted bail after allegedly accused of raping a learner
A 57-year-old educator from Mapanolla High School, Nelson Gwangwa, appeared before the Mahwelereng Magistrate’s Court in Mokopane, Limpopo on charges of allegedly raping an 18-year-old learner.
According to reports, the incident stems from an examination conducted on Friday, 13 March 2026, where the learner was allegedly found in possession of a cellphone and suspected of cheating.
The device was confiscated, and she was reportedly instructed to return with money to retrieve it.

It is further alleged that when the learner returned on Monday, 16 March 2026, the accused instructed her to go to the male restroom on the school premises, where the alleged incident took place.
Gwangwa was later arrested by Mahwelereng SAPS after being contacted to report to the police station on Tuesday, 17 March 2026.
During court proceedings, Investigating Officer Warrant Officer Gadebe opposed bail, expressing concern for the victim’s safety. “The accused is an educator at the same school. The victim may not feel safe if he is released,” he told the court.

In his affidavit, Gwangwa denied knowledge of the allegations prior to police contact.
The court granted bail of R1,000. The case was postponed to 4 May 2026 for further investigation.
