Hosi Dr Nwamitwa II passes away at the age of 85
Senior Traditional Leader of the Valoyi Traditional Community in Mopani, Limpopo, Hosi Dr Tinyiko Lwandlamuni Phyllia Nwamitwa II has passed away. Hosi Nwamitwa II passed away on Monday, 09 February 2026, aged 85.
Hosi Dr Nwamitwa II made history when she ascended the throne on 29 August 2008, becoming a pioneer woman traditional leader among the Vatsonga people. Her reign was marked by dignity, resilience and a commitment to leadership and service to her community.

Known for being a unifier in the community, Hosi Nwamitwa II, was a committed leader and an epitome of wisdom within the Institution of Traditional Leadership in the Province. She championed the construction of schools and clinics in the community.
Her devotion to community development also saw her receive sponsorships from overseas, for the empowerment her people, including the youth
She also led the Mopani Local House of Traditional Leaders and also served as an Executive member in the Provincial House of Traditional Leaders.

MEC for CoGHSTA in Limpopo, Basikopo Makamu, has described Hosi Nwamitwa II’s passing as a tremendous loss for the institution of traditional leadership in the province.
“We are deeply touched by the passing of this great daughter of the soil,” said MEC Makamu.
“She was the pillar of strength in the institution of Traditional Leadership. Death has robbed us of a dedicated Senior Traditional Leader and a community builder of note.”
“We extend our deepest sympathy to the family, friends of Hosi Nwamitwa II and the entire Royal family. May they find solace in knowing that their loss is shared by the whole nation.”
