17 overloaded vehicles captured during Operation Malayisha
As South Africans marked Reconciliation Day on Monday, 16 December, the Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety remained on high alert to ensure road safety across Limpopo.
At 04:00, Operation Malayisha commenced at the Zebediela Traffic Control Centre as part of intensified festive season road safety operations.

Within the early hours of the operation, law enforcement officials intercepted 17 overloaded vehicles, all of which were immediately removed from the road. The vehicles will be detained at the traffic control centre until their loads are adjusted to legal limits and the required fines are paid.
The department said the operation underscores its commitment to reducing road damage, preventing accidents, and protecting the lives of motorists during the busy holiday travel period. Overloaded vehicles are a major contributor to road crashes and infrastructure deterioration, particularly on long-distance freight routes.
Authorities used the significance of Reconciliation Day to remind motorists and transport operators that responsible driving and compliance with traffic regulations form part of building a safer and more united Limpopo.
