Bombo Investment chairman Ntiyiso Sibuyi says they plan to have the airport fully operational by June 2026.
“Phase one includes sod-turning and the breaking of grounds, which we were doing today,” Sibuyi told TV Channel eNCA.
“As of 1 June, we will start to do the foundations of the facility. We are anticipating having this airport operational by this time next year.”
“When you look at Giyani, it’s the closest Town or Airport that’s the proximity of three sister border countries, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Mozambique.
“As they say, an Elephant was killed by an ant. So this is what literally happened. The amount of work that was required from us to be where we are today is nothing close to climbing Kilimanjaro.
“So we have been tried and tested. Today is a moment of victory for the company Bongo Investment and all our associates,” he said.
“This now means that you can have someone flying from the United Kingdom and land just at the doorstep of the Kruger National Park. So that brings about convenience to those long-distance flying passengers and tourists that come into South Africa.”
