Cuban Doctor arrested for stealing medication in Limpopo

A 54-year-old Cuban doctor, Dr. Yamilet Castaneda, has appeared in the Thabazimbi Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing medication from Thabazimbi Hospital in Limpopo.

The incident occurred on 2 September 2025 when a security officer found unauthorised medication in the doctor’s bag during a routine search. More medication was later discovered in her office.

Dr Castaneda was arrested on 22 October after returning from Cuba and released on warning. The case was postponed to 28 November 2025 for further investigation.
