Two people drowned in separate Limpopo incidents
Two people, including a seven-year-old boy, have drowned in separate incidents in Mogalakwena and Modimolle, Limpopo, as heavy rains continue to batter parts of the province.
In Mogalakwena, police divers have recovered the body of an adult who drowned under circumstances still being investigated. Meanwhile, emergency teams are continuing the search for a seven-year-old boy who was swept away in the Tweestroom farming area near Modimolle.

The incidents form part of a broader weather-related crisis affecting several districts in Limpopo.
The MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs in Limpopo, Basikopo Makamu has called on communities to remain vigilant as the Yellow Level 4 Warning by the South African Weather Service remains in place.
“Our responsibility as government is to prevent any loss of life and help also restore the dignity of those who have been affected by heavy rains. We extend our heartfelt condolence to the families that have lost their loved ones, because of the devastating weather,” said Makamu.

The MEC has instructed departmental officials, working alongside disaster management teams, to conduct full damage assessments in the worst-affected areas.
The assessments will guide government interventions and the rollout of relief efforts to displaced and affected families.
