MEC Mathye launches Easter road safety campaign
The MEC for Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety, Violet Mathye officially launched its Easter Road Safety Campaign at Tshamahansi Village in Mokopane, Waterberg District on Monday.
The Easter Road Safety Campaign is aimed at bringing together key stakeholders committed to reducing road accidents.
MEC Mathye, joined by Head of Department Mr Stephen Matjena, executive management, and the Mayor of Mogalakwena Municipality, led a stakeholder briefing at Makgubuketja Primary School.

The session was attended by organisations including SANTACO, NTA, SAPS, Community Policing Forums, traditional leaders led by Kgosi David Kekana, and various transport sector partners.
In the opening remarks, Stephen Matjena, the head of the department highlighted the campaign’s purpose, urging motorists to prioritise safety, avoid reckless driving, and never drink and drive. Traditional leaders were also encouraged to play an active role in promoting responsible behaviour within communities.

MEC Mathye commended the cooperation between local leadership and stakeholders, stressing the importance of unity in saving lives. “We are calling on every road user to take responsibility for their actions. Road safety is not just a seasonal campaign, but a daily commitment to protecting lives,” she said.

Mathye also emphasised scholar transport safety, calling for proper vetting of drivers and increased community awareness. ”Through unity, awareness, and responsible behaviour, we can reduce accidents and ensure that our communities remain safe during Easter and beyond,” she concluded.
The campaign promotes year-round road safety, reminding all road users that responsibility does not end after Easter but continues every day.
