Mafori Group invest 850k to empower local football supporters
Financial Services Provider Mafori Group have introduced a ground-breaking initiative worth R850 000 towards empowering local football supporters in Limpopo.
The initiative spearheaded by Group CEO Pakie Mphahlele is aimed at mobilising more support for Motsepe Foundation Championship side Baroka FC, but also help support those in need.
Mafori Group took over as the main sponsor of the 2018 Telkom Knockout Champions at the beginning of the season.
The Baroka Village in Lebowakgomo has also been renamed the Mafori Stadium and recently hosted the DStv Diski Challenge [DDC] festival, a first of its kind in Lebowakgomo.

The ground-breaking initiative introduced by the group includes grant money for score predictions of Baroka FC games, subsidies for travel, both local and away games and grant money for Baroka shirts/replicas and food on away games.
Beyond that, the group says they have started an initiative to identify families who are in need, especially for educational support for their kids who can’t afford to pay their school fees.
“We came up with this initiative to assist supporters around Ga-Mphahlele. We have seen that Baroka is a club based in the Village and you know the majority of the people from the village are disadvantaged,” Mafori Group Brand Manager Richard Mashabane told Limpopo Chronicle.

“So it’s not only about making transport for supporters available to come to the stadium. We have also identified a project that we need to take care of within the Ga-Mphahlele area, as well as outside the area.
“Families that can’t afford to take kids to school. We have already started with the process of identifying the families that can’t afford to send their children to school,” he said.
“So we have identified more than 10 of the crèches around that we need to help parents to pay the fees for the whole year. We also aim to build houses for people who cannot afford to build houses.
“More especially, looking at the Baroka supporters because we know that Mafori are Baroka sponsors and we have a three-year deal with them. So our passion is also taking care of those who can’t afford to take care of themselves. So our support extends beyond our partnership with Baroka as a club,” added Mashabane.
