Newborn baby girl found abandoned in Makotopong
Police in Limpopo have launched a manhunt for a woman who allegedly abandoned her newborn baby girl in Makotopong, outside Polokwane.
The infant was reportedly abandoned at Kgatla Section, near a Brick Yard, on Sunday morning, 19 October 2025, at about 06:00.

According to information, a female passerby discovered the newborn baby girl abandoned along the road under a thorn tree.
The infant was wrapped in a black jersey and placed inside a plastic bag. The woman immediately called for help from community members, the Police, and emergency medical services.

Upon their arrival at the scene, the Police found the baby still alive and crying. She had no visible injuries. The child was taken to a local clinic for medical attention and is reported to be in stable condition.
Police are appealing to anyone who may have information that can assist in locating the mother of the baby to contact the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Lucy Ngobeni, at 082 565 6764 or 082 729 0399, or report to the nearest police station.
