Polokwane Municipality tariff adjustments
The Polokwane Municipality, Limpopo, has announced tariff adjustments for the 2025/26 financial year, effective from 01 July 2025.
The Municipality says the increases are necessary to sustain quality service delivery and are implemented in line with national regulatory frameworks and input costs from bulk service providers.

“Polokwane Municipality sources bulk electricity from Eskom and water from Lepelle Northern Water [LNW],” said the municipality.
“The Executive Mayor, Cllr Makoro John Mpe has reiterated that Polokwane Municipality will continue to exercise financial prudence by aligning its tariff increases with those of Eskom and LNW and will not exceed the percentages imposed by these bulk suppliers.”
Tariff adjustments are as follows:
Water: A block tariff increase ranging between 10.2% and 11.2%, depending on consumption levels.
Electricity: An increase of 11.32%, in line with the guidelines issued by the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA).
Other municipal services (refuse removal, sewer, etc.): A uniform increase of 6%.
Rates and taxes:
A 3% increase applicable to residential properties, agricultural land, public service infrastructure and public benefit organisations, implemented in accordance with National Treasury Circular 129 minus 1.4%.
A 6% increase will apply to business, commercial and industrial properties, properties used for public service purposes (organs of state), mining activities, non-permitted land uses and also privately owned open spaces.

Indigent applications are currently open at the Civic Centre and all cluster offices. To qualify, the combined household income must not exceed R5,740 per month and the applicant must be: 18 years old or above; and also South African citizen.
The municipality also continues to protect its most vulnerable residents through the following indigent support package: 6 kilolitres of free water, 100 kWh of free electricity, 100% subsidy for refuse removal and sewer charges and 100% rebate on property rates.
