Limpopo coach killed over muthi dispute at local tournament
The Limpopo football fraternity is mourning the death of popular local coach Kwena Katiba [29], who was allegedly murdered by a taxi boss following a dispute over muthi during a soccer tournament at Ga-Dikgale, Marobala, on Christmas Day.
Katiba, the owner and coach of Survivors FC Academy based in Turfloop Unit D outside Polokwane, was knocked down and dragged from the playground until the vehicle came to a stop on the R81 road. He later succumbed to his injuries at Mankweng Hospital, outside Polokwane.

According to a preliminary police report, the incident occurred during the Mamathipa Soccer Challenge, where Katiba confronted the driver of the taxi, who is also the owner and coach of Juventus FC, the opposing team, after noticing him removing a bag from the goalposts. Eyewitnesses allege that the bag was suspected to be carrying muthi.

The confrontation reportedly escalated into a heated argument, during which the suspect allegedly drove over Katiba.
The 37-year-old suspect has since been arrested in connection with the incident and is expected to appear before the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 29 December 2025, facing a charge of murder.
