Critical water infrastructure vandalised in Kgapane
The Lepelle Northern Water [LNW] has condemned acts of theft and vandalism of critical water infrastructure at the Kgapane Pump Station in the Mopani District Municipality.
The incident is said to have occurred on Sunday, 27 September 2026, where critical electrical and mechanical components were stolen.
This rendered the pump station temporarily inoperable, affecting pumping of water to the Kgapane Reservoir, a critical link in the bulk water supply chain to Kgapane and surrounding areas.

The LNW has since reported the incident to the South African Police Service (SAPS) and has commenced with technical assessments to establish the full extent of the damage and determine the remedial work required to restore operations at the pump station.
“The recovery plan is being treated as a matter of urgency, and LNW is working closely with Mopani District Municipality to minimise the impact on water supply to affected communities,” said LNW acting communications officer Rhulani Hlungwani.
