Shebeshxt launches new bail application
Lekompo musician Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, popularly known as Shebeshxt, has launched a third bail application at the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court.
Shebeshxt is facing a total of 21 charges, including four counts of attempted murder, theft and malicious damage to property, among others.
His previous two bail applications and their appeals were dismissed in the Polokwane High Court. This is after the state successfully classifying the matters under Schedule 6 due to offenses allegedly committed while out on previous bail.

During the last bail application proceedings, the State argued that Chauke’s latest application did not introduce genuinely new facts and instead relied on issues already raised in previous bail proceedings.
This is despite his defence team arguing that the new facts related to alleged failures by Correctional Services to assist him in accessing medical and psychological treatment while in custody.
He appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate Court on Wednesday for his third bail application on new facts.

However, the application was cancelled after Chauke appointed new legal counsel. This is due to the fact that the new legal counsel needs more time to familiarise themselves with the matter before the new bail application can proceed. He will instead appear for pre-trial on Thursday.
He was earlier represented by Advocate Michael Khumalo and Senior Counsel Laurence Hodes. Chauke has also been previously represented by Lot Ramusi from Ramusi Attorneys.
