Woman arrested for bribing police to secure husband’s release

A 53-year-old woman has been arrested after she allegedly attempted to bribe a police officer with R4,000 in exchange for the release of her husband, who was in police custody on a charge of dealing in dagga.

According to the Limpopo police, the woman, from Zone 1 Extension in Seshego, approached a police constable attached to the Polokwane Public Order Policing (POPS) unit at the Mankweng Community Service Centre on Saturday, 29 August 2026. She allegedly offered the money to secure her husband’s release.

Police said the constable did not solicit, request or accept the money and warned the woman that her conduct was unlawful.

Despite the warning, the woman allegedly removed the cash from her pocket and forcefully placed it into the constable’s hands. The police officer immediately apprehended her on a charge of bribery.

The 53-year-old suspect is expected to appear before the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 31 August 2026, facing a charge of bribery.

Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers commended the police officer for his integrity and professionalism in refusing to be compromised and for upholding the law.
