Four people killed on N1 Limpopo on Friday evening

Four people were killed in two separate motor vehicle accidents on the N1 Limpopo on Friday evening. The first incident was a fatal head-on collision involving a SAPS Toyota minibus and an LDV Toyota Starlet next to Astron Garage, near Polokwane.

Preliminary reports indicate that the collision resulted in one fatality, involving the driver of the LDV Toyota Starlet after the vehicle was burnt beyond recognition when it caught fire.

The SAPS minibus also caught fire at the front following the collision. 12 people were injured from the SAPS Minibus. 8 of them were seriously injured and 4 were slightly injured and taken to hospital for medical care.

Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers, has extended well wishes to SAPS members who survived a fatal crash.

Lieutenant General Scheepers, who visited the scene, conveyed his condolences to the family of the deceased motorist and wished the injured members a speedy recovery.

The second accident was N1 near Modimolle Mountain involving a Toyota sedan, a GWM LDV and a Mercedes-Benz.‎

‎Three male fatalities were reported. Four people sustained slight injuries, while one person sustained serious injuries and was transported to hospital for medical attention.

Motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution, remain patient and avoid the affected section of the N1 until further notice. Motorists are also advised to follow instructions from law enforcement and traffic officials on the ground.
