Limpopo star wins Sportswoman of the Year at SA Sport Awards

Limpopo-born middle-distance runner Prudence Sekgodiso won the Sportswoman of the Year at the 19th Edition of the South African Sport Awards at Sun City Superbowl, North West on Sunday.

Sekgodiso had an outstanding year in athletics including winning South Africa’s first-ever women’s indoor gold medal in the 800 metres at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China.

Meanwhile, fellow Limpopo stars Kgothatso Montjane from Seshego and Sheryl James from Louis Trichardt missed out on the evening. The pair were nominated for the Sportswoman of the Year with a Disability. The award was won by Simoné Kruger.

The overall winner on the night was sprinter Akani Simbine who was crowned Sport Star of the Year.
