Three foreign nationals arrested for dealing in illicit clothing

Two Ethiopian nationals together with a Senegalese national, were arrested in connection with possession and dealing in illicit clothing in Musina Town, Limpopo.

Dawet Kente [29) and Yirgalem Feleke Maregn [34], Gueye Ngagne [37] from Senegal appeared before the Musina Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 20 August 2026. They were remanded in police custody for further investigation and bail application.

In addition, another Ethiopian national Berhanu Hailu Mola [52], was arrested for attempting to bribe police officers. He was granted bail of R5,000.

Police seized counterfeit goods worth thousands of rands, along with a substantial amount of cash used in the attempted bribe.

The four suspects were arrested on Friday, 14 August 2026, by members of Polokwane Public Order Policing (POP) during an intelligence‑driven operation focusing on counterfeit goods and clothing in the Musina policing area. During the operation in Musina town, three suspects aged between 29 and 37 were apprehended for possession and dealing in illicit clothing.

While effecting the arrests, a 52‑year‑old Ethiopian national allegedly attempted to bribe police officers to prevent further law enforcement action. The offer was rejected, and he was immediately arrested for bribery.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers, praised the members for their determination in combating illicit trade.

“No amount of illegal antics will stop these men and women in blue in their endeavor to fight all forms of criminality,” said Lieutenant General Scheepers.

“We will continue to deliver a devastating blow to criminal networks across the province.”
