Limpopo police state readiness for 30 June demonstrations

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Limpopo has assured residents that extensive security measures are in place ahead of the planned 30 June demonstrations linked to anti-foreigner sentiments and illegal immigration.

 

Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe said the Provincial Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (ProvJOINTS), comprising SAPS and other law enforcement and security agencies, has activated comprehensive operational plans. Police have been deployed to strategic locations, including major routes, business districts, ports of entry and other critical infrastructure, to maintain public order and respond swiftly to any incidents.

Hadebe emphasised that there will be no shutdown of the province, with businesses, essential services, ports of entry and economic activities expected to continue operating as normal under heightened police protection.

 

While reaffirming the constitutional right to peaceful protest, she warned that violence, intimidation, looting, road blockades, attacks on businesses and damage to property will not be tolerated, with offenders facing decisive legal action.

 

The Provincial Commissioner also reminded foreign nationals to comply with South Africa’s immigration laws, stressing that immigration enforcement remains the responsibility of authorised state agencies. She warned against vigilantism, xenophobia and hate speech, adding that anyone inciting violence or unlawful acts, including through social media, will be investigated and prosecuted where evidence exists
