CIMA Set for Second Annual Celebration of Indigenous Choral Music
The Choral Indigenous Music Awards (CIMA) will return for their second edition on 25 July 2026 at AMPD Studios in Johannesburg, bringing together some of the country’s leading choral and indigenous music talents. The event, which will be streamed live across digital platforms, celebrates excellence in indigenous choral music while promoting Africa’s rich cultural heritage.

Founded by Sounds of Azania executive producer Msizi Mavundla and coordinated by project manager Jennifer Mdluli, CIMA continues to grow as a platform dedicated to recognising and preserving indigenous musical traditions.
Voting, which opened on 9 March, will close on 19 July 2026, with fans encouraged to help select winners across several categories, including Best Indigenous Music Award, Best Choral Performance Award, Choral Group of the Year, Choral Album of the Year and the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Backed by sponsors Zuri Fragrance and Primeride Group, the awards aim to empower artists, strengthen the indigenous music sector and ensure choral music remains a vibrant part of Africa’s cultural identity.
