Limpopo Government Warns Public Over Fake Initiation School Approval Letter
The Limpopo Provincial Government has distanced itself from a fraudulent letter circulating on social media that falsely claims Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba approved certain initiation schools to operate during the 2026 initiation season.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the provincial government confirmed that the letter, dated 19 June 2026, is fake and that the Premier’s signature and date were forged. Authorities described the document as a deliberate attempt to mislead communities and undermine lawful processes governing initiation schools.

The government emphasised that all applications for initiation schools must be processed through the Limpopo Province Initiation Coordination Committee (PICC), with unsuccessful applicants required to follow official appeal procedures.
Officials further warned that any initiation school operating on the basis of the forged letter would be doing so unlawfully and could face legal consequences.
The provincial government has also pledged to work with the South African Police Service (SAPS) and other law-enforcement agencies to trace those responsible for creating and distributing the fraudulent document.

Traditional leaders, parents, communities and initiation school principals have been urged to verify all communications through official government channels before acting on them.
