BMA repatriates over 1,300 foreign nationals through Beitbridge border
The Border Management Authority (BMA) has intensified immigration enforcement operations at the Beitbridge Port of Entry, facilitating the repatriation and deportation of more than 1,300 foreign nationals.
According to BMA Commissioner Dr Michael Masiapato, officials processed the repatriation of 673 Malawian nationals and 202 Zimbabwean nationals through coordinated operations involving foreign missions, the Department of Home Affairs, and the South African Police Service. A further 453 Malawian nationals detained at the Lindela Holding Facility were deported and returned to their country of origin.

Masiapato praised officials for managing the large-scale operation efficiently and humanely despite the high volume of travellers and logistical demands.
During the operation, BMA officials also prevented the illegal entry of two Zimbabwean nationals listed on the Visa and Entry Stop List and intercepted 11 undocumented Zimbabwean nationals attempting to enter South Africa without the required documentation

In addition, officials processed the departure of 69 foreign nationals, including Zambian, Tanzanian, Zimbabwean and Malawian citizens who had overstayed in South Africa. The individuals were fingerprinted, declared undesirable, and assisted to exit the country in line with the Immigration Act.
The BMA said the operations demonstrate its commitment to enforcing immigration laws while ensuring the dignified treatment of all affected individuals.
