Family held hostage in Rwanda Village kidnapping ordeal

A family from Rwanda Village, Mopani District endured a terrifying ordeal after a group of armed suspects allegedly stormed their home and held them hostage during a robbery and kidnapping incident.

According to Limpopo police, a 35-year-old woman was awakened in the early hours of Saturday, 6 June 2026, by an armed intruder who forced her into another room where her mother and brother were already being held captive by seven suspects.

The suspects allegedly robbed the family of cellphones, a laptop and a router before forcing the woman to unlock her banking application. They then allegedly transferred an undisclosed amount of money from her account using a card machine brought to the scene.

In a further twist, the gang allegedly forced the woman’s brother to drive them in his white Toyota Legend 45 bakkie to a secluded area, where they abandoned him and fled on foot.

Before escaping, the suspects reportedly threatened to kill the family if they reported the incident to police.

Cases of house robbery and kidnapping have been opened, and Letsitele police have launched a manhunt for the suspects.
