A 19-year-old teenager, Nhlamulo Sambo from Giyani, Limpopo, was allegedly stabbed to death in Mossel Bay, Western Cape, during unrest reportedly linked to protests involving foreign nationals.
According to a Facebook post by his sister, Nonhlanhla, Nhlamulo was allegedly attacked after being removed from a residence and stabbed because he spoke Xitsonga.

“They killed my brother as if his life meant nothing,” wrote Nonhlanhla on Facebook on Monday.
“My 19-year-old little brother was stabbed to death on 31 May during the xenophobic protests in Mossel Bay, Western Cape. His only ‘fault’ was being Tsonga in a predominantly Xhosa community.
“As a family, we are deeply hurt by this inhumane act. Justice must be served, and we will not remain silent,” she wrote.

The incident has sparked outrage on social media, with calls for a thorough investigation and justice for the victim.
In a video circulating on Facebook, Nhlamulo’s mother, Nkateko Patricia Sambo, has also pleaded with South Africans to help bury her child in Giyani.
“They killed my son like a dog, saying that he is a foreigner, whereas my son is a Tsonga, a South African citizen of Giyani in Limpopo. I am very painful and hurt as I am speaking now. Here I am right now. They killed my child, and now I should take the body home to Limpopo. I should bury my son on Saturday. Please, South Africans help me.”
