Court questions AI use in Shebeshxt bail appeal

The Limpopo High Court in Polokwane has raised concerns over the alleged use of artificial intelligence in Shebeshxt’s bail appeal application.

Judge Pillay said supplementary facts submitted before the court should be treated with caution, stating that the advocate who provided the information was not the legal representative appointed in court on Wednesday.

The judge further indicated that the claims may have been AI-generated or otherwise unverified.

Chauke appeared before the High Court in Polokwane on Wednesday morning for another bail appeal.

His second bail application was dismissed earlier this month by the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court after he reapplied for bail on new grounds. His initial bail application was also denied in December last year.

He is currently facing 20 charges, which were added during proceedings at the Regional Court earlier this month. The charges include three counts of attempted murder, malicious damage to property, and illegal possession of a firearm.

The court subsequently postponed Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke’s bail appeal application to 12 June 2026 at 9am.
