Female correctional officer shot dead in Modimolle
A female correctional service officer was shot dead while walking from her rented room to her workplace at Modimolle Correctional Centre, Limpopo, on Tuesday morning, 12 May 2026. The incident occurred along Nelson Mandela Road at approximately 06:30.
The officer was reportedly approached by an unknown man when an altercation allegedly ensued, during which the victim was shot twice in the upper body.

The victim whose identity is withheld as part of the ongoing investigation, was allegedly temporarily residing in Modimolle town. She was certified dead at the scene.
The suspect fled the scene on foot after the incident and has not yet been arrested. The motive for the shooting is still unknown at this stage.

Police in Modimolle have launched a manhunt for the suspect. Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo Lt General Thembi Hadebe, has ordered specialised units to intensify the search for the suspect.
