Lekompo artist Nova Dzaii has passed away

Limpopo and the Lekompo music fraternity have woken up to yet another devastating loss following the death of rising artist Nova Dzaii, popularly known as The Black Ninja.

His death comes barely 24 hours after fellow Lekompo musician Queen Terc was laid to rest following her tragic death in a motor vehicle accident.

Details surrounding the circumstances of The Black Ninja’s death remain sketchy at this stage, but according to multiple reports, the Mahwelereng-born star died of a motor vehicle accident.

He died just a few hours after dropping his new song titled Skhethe, featuring producer Ba Bethe Gashoazen. The hit song was released at midnight on Saturday 9 May 2026. Nova is famous for songs like Lerato le fedile with Shebeshxt and 11 Gram.

Lekompo producer DJ Call Me and music producer Naqua Music are among the artists who have already shared tributes on social media.

“Mara ka gare ga Lekompo re Bolaya Keng? Why mara Modimo. RIP NFANAKA, [But what is it that is killing us in the Lekompo genre? Rest in peace, my boy,” wrote Dj Call Me.

Robala ka Khutso [rest in peace] Nova Dzaii, yohh yhohh. There’s a dark spirit in this genre [Lekompo],” wrote Naqua Music.
