Miyelani Chauke elected New Mayor of Vhembe

ANC Vhembe Deputy Regional Chairperson, Miyelani Chauke, has been elected the new Executive Mayor of Vhembe District Municipality.

Chauke takes over from Fridah Nkondo, who served as the Executive Mayor of the District for approximately 18 months. She was appointed on November 16, 2023, until news of her removal.

Her removal comes as a result of a decision by the ANC Limpopo Provincial Executive Committee to redeploy her.

ANC Provincial spokesperson Ernest Rachoene has congratulated Chauke on his new task, saying they made him aware of the huge task ahead.

“I can confirm that the provincial Secretary of the ANC was embarking on a programme today to communicate the decision of the PEC,” said Rachoene.

**PUBLIC NOTICE**

“We want to take this opportunity as the ANC to congratulate the newly elected executive Mayor. We are very happy as the ANC that he’s been elected as the Mayor today, but the message is very clear that he knows as a councillor of the District, that we are having serious challenges in Vhembe. So the mandate is very clear that he must make sure people of Vhembe get water and the service that they deserve.”

Meanwhile, Rachoene also confirmed that a new Mayor will be elected in Tzaneen soon, following a meeting with political leadership in that area.

“There were decisions that were made. Some of those decisions include the issue of configuration of the PMT of Greater Tzaneen Municipality, in particular, the Mayor,” he said.

“So what I can say about the Greater Tzaneen Municipality is that we have communicated the decision as the PEC to the caucus of the ANC, and we have allowed the process of the council to close the matter. But the fact of the matter is that we are going to have a new Mayor in Tzaneen.”
