Limpopo man sentenced for killing his 2-year-old biological son
The Polokwane High Court has sentenced 24-year-old Thabang Hendrick Letsebe from Shongoane village outside Lephalale to 20 years’ direct imprisonment for the murder of his two-year-old biological son.
According to police, officers responded to a complaint at Shongoane village on Sunday, 6 October 2024, at around 06:00, where they discovered the mutilated body of the child lying on a bed.

The child’s father was allegedly found at the scene in possession of some of the victim’s body parts and was immediately arrested and charged with murder.
The case was investigated by Warrant Officer Tebele Mafokoane of the Villa Nora Detectives Unit, who successfully opposed bail, ensuring the accused remained in custody throughout the trial.

On Tuesday, 5 May 2026, the Polokwane Division of the High Court handed Letsebe a 20-year prison sentence.
Limpopo Provincial Police Commissioner, Thembi Hadebe, welcomed the conviction and praised investigators for securing justice.
“This senseless and horrific killing left the community in shock. We will continue prioritising crimes against vulnerable children and ensure perpetrators face the full might of the law,” she said.
