Suspects arrested for illegal mining of Chrome in Sekhukhune
Seven suspects aged between 25 and 63 have been arrested for illegal mining of Chrome in Apel, Sekhukhune in Limpopo.
The arrests were made on Wednesday, 22 April 2026, during a tactical intelligence-driven operation at Jakalasdans village in the Sekhukhune District.

The operation involved members from Burgersfort SAPS, the Provincial Organised Crime Unit, Sekhukhune Public Order Policing, and a private security company.
Police found the suspects actively mining chrome at Jakalasdans Mountain using shovels and buckets to extract minerals from underground.

All seven suspects were arrested at the scene. Authorities also confiscated five shovels and four 25-litre buckets believed to have been used in the illegal operation.
The suspects have been charged with illegal mining and are expected to appear before the Apel Magistrate’s Court soon.
