Four motorists arrested for speeding on the N1 in Limpopo
Four motorists were arrested over the past week for driving at excessive speeds on the N1 Limpopo in separate incidents.
According to the Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety, the first arrest was made on Thursday near Sondela, where a Mercedes-Benz was clocked travelling at an alarming 221km/h.
Traffic officers swiftly stopped the vehicle, and the driver was taken into custody and transported to Bela-Bela Police Station.

In a second incident on Friday morning, another motorist was arrested on the N1 South near Settlers after being recorded driving at 171km/h. The driver was also detained and taken to Bela-Bela Police Station.
In the third incident, the motorist, who was driving an Audi A4, was arrested for travelling at 191km/h on the N1 near Settlers, Limpopo, on Saturday, 18 April 2026.
The driver was taken to Bela-Bela Police Station and is expected to face charges related to excessive speeding.

In a fourth incident, a driver was arrested on the N1 near Settlers after the vehicle was recorded travelling at 186km/h at 07:00 on Monday morning. The driver was arrested and taken to Bela Bela Police Station to face charges.
The department has strongly condemned the incidents, warning that such extreme speeds drastically reduce reaction time and significantly increase the likelihood of fatal crashes.
The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety has also reminded all motorists that speed limits are not suggestions, but legal requirements designed to keep road users safe.
